The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of fers postgraduate programmes and research opportunities across its three centre of studies and seven centres of excellence. There are three postgraduate programmes available:
- EM780 Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering)
- EM774 Master in Engineering Management
- EM990 PhD (Mechanical Engineering)
The objectives of these programmes are to upgrade the nation’s technological level and to provide the necessar y base for future technological developments in the countr y. At the same time, these programmes will help to increase the quality of undergraduate programmes and will provide more linkages and interactions with industries and the public sector. To cater for the undergoing research activities, the faculty has provide a wide range of well-equipped modern laboratories, computing facilities and competent faculty members with various backgrounds.
MASTERS/PHD IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (BY RESEARCH)
The Masters Degree programme is a research-based programme, which leads to the awards of the Master of Science. The minimum period of study is one and a half years. Master of Science graduates also have the option to fur ther their studies towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The Doctoral programme at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was f irst introduced in June 1999. It is intended for graduates with an appropriate Master ’s degree who wish to pursue research leading to the award of PhD super vision of research for the PhD students is by respected professors and experts in their fields. Researchers may conduct their research either in the Facult y of Mechanical Engineering or outside the Faculty, depending on the areas of study.
Entry Requirement
EM780 Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering) A Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree or equivalent from a universit y recognised by UiTM Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent. Professional experience would be an added advantage. A candidate applying for admission is required to submit a research proposal in the intended areas of study. Candidates have to at tend an inter view, which will determine their suitabilit y in the proposed area of research.
EM990 PhD (Mechanical Engineering) A Master’s degree in engineering or in one of the physical sciences, from a recognised university, or other higher educational institutions recognised byUiTM Senate. A candidate applying for admission is also required to submit a research proposal in the proposed area of study. Candidates will be inter viewed to determine the suitability of their proposed research.
